Labor Day

Good morning fellow Toastmasters. Our 09/21 meeting “Labor Day” had us thinking of bbq's, vacations & relaxation.
Lucille (TT master last night) asked questions about Labor Day and how we would like to spend it, what we ate, & what it means to us. Her questions had TT speakers really thinking on their feet.
Our refreshments were provided by Michael...some of the best chips and salsa I've had this side of Hacienda Heights GOOD Stuff :)
Prepared speeches were given by Ricardo and Garvin who were in turn evaluated by George & Brian.
Ricardo was prepping for the upcoming speech competition while Garvin volunteered to speak last night. Great job by both speakers!
Both evaluators offered very insightful feedback which speakers could use in future speeches.
The highlight of the evening was the speech/performance given by Sam in preparation for "his big day" For those not in attendance, you missed an AMAZING performance delivered via the ukulele! GREAT JOB & best wishes my fellow toastmaster.
Michelle then evaluated the speech of the performance and offered very useful tips that Sam could incorporate in the speech portion.
All in all a great meeting & really, what better way to spend a Monday than with your fellow Toastmasters.

We will see everyone next week

Bilingual

Dear fellow Valley Speakers,
Please see below the pictures! Again let's Greet and Welcome our new members, winners, and our baby speaker, Branden, Brian's son!

Brian won the best table topic speaker award on 4/6/15. Like father like son, Branden is an excellent listener, he gave very good responds at very proper moment. What a baby!
It is so nice to have family members participate in the meeting. Doesn't matter you are 15 minutes late or longer, we still love to see you and have fun with our most welcome members and guests.

Sincerely,

Juju

Surf and Sand

It's been less than two months since the beginning of 2010-2011 administrative year, and club membership is up. Welcome to Valley Speakers, James, Lormen and Ernestina!

Tonight's topic was Surf and Sand. Since the word of the day was "gourmet", Table Topic Master Byron decided to throw a curve ball and asked the question, "What would you have for your last meal?"

As usual, we got a variety of responses. Among them were ribs from Joanne's kitchen, hot dogs, strawberry shortcake, whales, dolphins and starfish, Mexican pomegranate dish and fresh sea urchin.

Bon appétit.

Next week's table topic is Plastic and Environment.

Toy Story

Thanks to our Toastmaster of the evening, Fabian, Table Topic Master, Juju and President Peter, we had another successful meeting.
The format was slightly different from usual in that Juju set the tone for the Table Topic (story telling - Toy Story) then we went around the room completing the story told by the speaker before. At the end of the night, we had one cohesive story - cannibalistic monkey toys go to space???
Sounds a bit crazy, but we had fun nonetheless. And that's what counts! We'll keep learning as long as we are having fun. Keep those crazy table topics coming!

Theme for next week: A far away land

Dazzled by visitors - 4/20/09

We had sensational visitors...both of whom participated on their first visit with us. One new member mesmerized us with a speech about the plus side of living in California, and she had a very original approach to her speech. One of the visitors talked about his confidence and his musicianship and it was astounding; he had a wonderful voice quality. The another visitor, Teresa, won the best table topics speaker as well as the best evaluator for the evening. She was so observant and diplomatic. In fact, at one point, as timer, I forgot to turn on the yellow light because I was mesmerized by the way she expressed herself to the speaker she was evaluating.

What a kick. Members had a good laugh over that. When such people visit our club, we enjoy them so much. I wouldn't have missed that meeting for the world. What fun!

Sincerely, Lucille

$ talk - 1/26/09

Here is something dirty but most of people can't get enough of... MONEY!

Gerhard's Lao trip gives him the first hand experience of having too much money. As of 1/29/09, 1 USD is worth about 8500 Kip! Here is a link to how the Lao currency/ banknote looks like. http://www.banknotes.com/la37.htm

Another trivia. What's the least valued currency in the world? Click the link for answer. It takes 40,000,000,000,000 "dollar" to exchange 1 US dollar!

Think on your feet- in COLOR 1/19/09

To spice up our meeting, Juju brought in a projector and a notebook computer for the table topic - colorful. Sure it's a colorful night!

We didn't see the true color from the projection due to connection issue. All pictures look slightly off and a bit dull. Isn't that like communication? What others hear might not be 100% what we intend to express. If we don't "connect" with our audience, we will not communicate effectively.

scarf night - 1/12/09

What can you do with a scarf besides putting on your neck or shoulder? Angelica, the Topic Master of the night, really gets our creative juice flowing. Juju uses it to exercise and dance. Others suggest to frame it as wall decoration, to make it as a baby carrier, or to carry lunch box.

Tim and Vivi are two guests of the night. We are excited to have new blood to join us and grow with us. Since some of our members are travelling for work, or have different obligations conflicting with meeting schedule once a while, we really benefit from new members/guests.
Juju, our VP of Education, also reminds us the LACE training coming up. The best training $12 can buy! See http://www.foundersdistrict.org/ for detail.
